An identified Lahore object

The British Museum’s Islamic Gallery record identifies gold coin 1937,1214.1 as a Lahore issue of Jahangir. It describes a Scorpio figure on one face and an inscription on the other, and records a weight of 10.89 grams and diameter of 20 millimetres. Its displayed date is the broad reign range 1605–1627, with AH 1014–1037 alongside. Keep that range as the catalogue gives it; it is not a precise striking year extracted here from the inscription. The separate acquisition year, 1937, concerns the museum’s collecting history. Neither the modern collection location nor that acquisition date is the ancient mint attribution.[1]

A presentation coin and a conflict

Museum With No Frontiers records a different Lahore object at Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah in Kuwait, inventory LNS 12376 N. Its description identifies a gold hundred-muhur presentation coin of Shah Jahan, dated AH 1048, or 1638–39, and his twelfth regnal year. The stated purpose is presentation to officials and nobles, rather than an example of every ordinary payment. The record also contains a conflict: its dynasty field says Ilkhanid while the description explicitly names the Mughal ruler. Retain and flag that inconsistency when seeking curatorial clarification. Copying an isolated classification into a new facts panel would conceal the disagreement within the source itself. The published English inscription reading is another attributed layer.[2]

Separate date and legend fields

The State Bank of Pakistan’s archived Mughal display provides another catalogue trail: a silver Jahangir rupee whose described reverse includes an Ilahi month, Lahore and the numeral 9. Its main text separately discusses Hijri dating on Mughal coins. Keep the month, numeral and calendar label as described before attempting a conversion. The page supplies no accession number for that caption, so it is a lead requiring a fuller object record, not an independently verified exact minting date.[3]
