Behind the reading room
Sources & methodology.
How Punjabi History inspects references, links sources to claims and records uncertainty.
A visible evidence trail
Numbered markers link factual paragraphs to named sources. Each source note records the creator, title, URL, type, locator, access date and any inspection limits. Following the return link takes you back to the cited paragraph.
“Inspected” means the cited material was accessed during this production session. When only a book description or chapter preview was available, the note says so. It does not mean that an inaccessible book or archive collection was read in full.
Different sources, different questions
An object record can establish how a museum currently catalogues an object. A memoir records a narrator’s account. A scholarly synthesis offers an interpretation. These are useful in different ways; none is silently substituted for another.
Names records keep documented use separate from lexical evidence and individual naming intention. Place records separate a city, district, monument and historical jurisdiction. Date ranges preserve their approximate precision.
The release gate
The build checks article IDs and paths against the commissioning register, resolves every source marker, verifies required fields, rejects duplicate routes and enforces the current source-checking and review policy before including a record in the published manifest.
Human review is not completed for this initial AI-assisted edition. The build can check consistency and missing evidence fields; it cannot establish historical truth on its own.
Follow the source, then ask one more question
Look for the exact locator. Check who created the record, for whom, and when. Ask whether the cited passage directly supports the claim or provides context. If the answer is unclear, use the correction template and include the passage you think needs attention.
