Painting and exhibition dates
The Paul Mellon Centre’s description of Adam Eaker’s 2024 seminar identifies George Richmond’s Jind Kaur portrait as painted in 1863 and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1865. Its image caption describes oil on panel, gives dimensions of 45 by 61.3 centimetres and credits a private collection, with a commercial image-provider courtesy line. These statements concern production, exhibition, collection description and reproduction. Keep them separate in a provenance note. The seminar proposes an analysis of adornment, visibility and women’s power under colonialism; its announcement is not a transcript of the talk or a complete ownership history for the painting.[1]
An online image record
A Google Arts and Culture image entry repeats Richmond’s name and includes 1863 in its title, while identifying the Gianfranco Ferré Research Center at Politecnico di Milano as its publishing collection. That is an online context for the reproduction. The displayed fields supply no physical accession number or full sequence of owners. They should not be turned into proof that the original painting is held in Milan. When saving a reference, retain the image-entry title, publisher and URL, then look for a separate object or loan record before asserting the original’s custody.[2]
A dated display credit
Historic Royal Palaces’ 2026 Last Princesses of Punjab page supplies a later documentary point. Its photograph caption identifies a Jind Kaur portrait on display and credits the Kapany Collection, The Sikh Foundation. That credit is useful when following the work’s exhibition trail, but the page does not provide an acquisition date, sale history or full object identifier for the painting. Nor does the venue itself establish permanent ownership. Compare the dated exhibition credit with the earlier private-collection caption, and preserve the gap between them until a lender or catalogue provides a documented connection.[3]
