Local singing, visits and charity

Fides’s December 2022 account of Pakistani Christian communities describes Christmas hymns in Punjabi and Urdu with instruments including tabla and dholak. Children’s choirs visit neighbours’ homes and receive hospitality. Music therefore moves beyond a church programme into visiting and meeting. The report also names a Caritas lunch for families in need in Faisalabad and an interreligious gathering in Rawalpindi. These activities are presented through the church news service’s emphasis on closeness to others. They connect celebration with giving food, receiving singers and public conversation, without making one musical style or charitable programme the practice of every Punjabi Christian congregation.[1]

A mass and a separate carnival

A December 2025 Jalandhar report describes mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, followed by devotees lighting candles outside the decorated building. It mentions gifts and cakes brought as offerings and Santa caps among those attending. Separately, Jullundur Gymkhana Club held a carnival for members and their families, with children’s games, rides and places for photographs. The two settings should remain distinct: the church account describes a Catholic observance, while the club programme describes a civic and recreational gathering. Their appearance in the same city report does not establish that everyone attended both or shared a religious identity.[3]

Children contributing to a Lahore meeting

Fides’s December 2019 Lahore report centres a meeting organised by the Catholic bishops’ dialogue commission. Religious leaders and civic representatives heard Bible and Quran passages, and leaders lit candles together. Children from different schools sang carols and presented work; pupils from St Mary’s in Gulberg contributed a painted board about the nativity. The report treats these contributions as part of a deliberately arranged encounter. It records an organiser’s effort to bring people together and the participants it names, rather than evidence that the meeting represented every church or resolved disagreements across society.[2]
