Evidence record · given name
Meaning and use are separate questions.
Lexical evidence: A dictionary-based meaning for the complete personal name has not been established here.
Documented use: Harinder Singh Mehboob is documented in an English publisher credit, a Gurmukhi full-author form and an award register; the remembrance later uses Mehboob.
An author credit on a particular edition
Singh Brothers lists Jhanan Di Raat under Harinder Singh Mehboob, with Prof. appended to the author credit. Its catalogue specifies a fourth edition dated May 2024, an ISBN and 831 pages. The Punjabi description also prints the full author’s name in Gurmukhi. These elements attach the English and native-script credits to a particular book record. The edition date describes that publication, rather than when the writer first chose or used Harinder.[1]
The publisher’s related-books field identifies further works by the same credited author, including Sehje Rachio Khalsa and volumes of Ilahi Nadar De Painde. Those links place the name within a larger publishing record; they are not evidence that the linked books’ full contents have been read.[1]
A much earlier award record
Sahitya Akademi lists Jhanan Di Rat by Harinder Singh Mehboob for its 1991 Punjabi poetry award.[2]
The 1991 award and the publisher’s 2024 edition describe different events, not the same publication date.[1][2]
The name in a dated remembrance
A February 2010 SikhNet account recalls Mehboob’s study at Mohindra College in Patiala and teaching at Khalsa College, Garhdiwala. It connects an English-literature teacher with a body of Punjabi writing and reports named contemporaries discussing his work. It also describes his continuing epic project and a reported conversation in which he recalled beginning it in 1991. Here the full name introduces a writer whose later references use Mehboob. Those forms belong to an identifiable literary life; they do not establish the meaning or original family intention of every Harinder. The account distinguishes completed first and fourth volumes from a second volume still in progress, making its report a dated description of unfinished work. This retrospective account was published after his death; it is not a contemporary record of each earlier event.[3]
