Meaning and use are separate questions.
Lexical evidence: Ahmed cross-refers Sadia to Sadiya: happy, fortunate.
Documented use: Sadia Shaukat; Haleema Sadia; Sadia Abbas.
An explicit cross-reference
Ahmed’s dictionary directs Sadia to Sadiya, whose English gloss includes happy and fortunate. This documents a cross-reference, rather than personality or family intention.[1]
Sadia Shaukat’s degree announcement
Punjab University’s announcement of 8 July 2012 states that Sadia Shaukat received a doctorate in education after approval of a thesis about prospective teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs during teacher education. It credits the supervisor and identifies Shaukat as a University of Education lecturer at that time. The name is anchored to a particular award and dated professional context. The announcement documents the degree; it does not give the thesis’s findings, and the thesis itself was not inspected. Its employment statement remains attached to 2012.[2]
Haleema Sadia’s own abbreviated credit
A CV names Haleema Sadia and lists a science degree from Punjab University in Lahore. Its own publication list also uses Sadia, H. That is an observed credit convention within the bearer’s document, without proving a universal rule about surname position. The delivery contains two physical pages, although they are numbered one of five and two of five. The doctorate row says submitted to supervisors for evaluation. Reading that qualification literally avoids converting a recorded submission into a completed doctorate or claiming access to the missing pages.[3]
Sadia Abbas’s particular Lahore connection
Rutgers University–Newark’s interview of 25 April 2018 presents Sadia Abbas as an English scholar in a profile anticipating a first novel. Its opening describes an upbringing in Singapore and Karachi, with brief stays in Lahore and Peshawar. Lahore is thus a specifically described connection within a wider account, rather than evidence of birthplace or an inferred Punjabi identity. Keeping the brief-stay wording makes this example useful without overstating it. The profile supplies a scholarly and creative credit for Sadia; it does not explain the family’s choice of the name.[4]
