A written form associated with praise
The Roman spelling Sana can represent names written in different ways. A Karachi religious reference answers a question about the name ثناء and explains that this form is associated with praise. That is an interpretation of this particular written form; it does not establish the spelling or intention behind every person called Sana. Persian and Urdu use related words, and names can travel across languages and families. A person’s own written form and preferred pronunciation are better evidence for their name than an English spelling alone. The examples below record name use, not the private reasons behind it.[1]
A cricket selection list
A Pakistan Women Cricket Association notice from September 2002 lists Sana Javed among players from Toba Tek Singh selected for a camp after trials in Lahore. The notice records a selection and planned camp, not necessarily every player’s later career or participation in a particular match. It also lists players from several Punjab districts, showing the geographical scope of that trial notice. The original list remains useful evidence of a documented name. The notice places the trials at Queen Mary College and links them to the National Quaid-e-Azam Women Cricket Trophy. Its archive heading carries 23 September, while the date beside the secretary’s name reads 19 September.[2]
A Lahore film interview
In an Express Tribune interview published from Lahore, film actor Sana Fakhar discussed her career and mentioned working in the film Sangam. This is the actor’s own account as reported in an interview, distinct from the cricket selection notice. The name Sana appears in many professional settings, and a shared Roman form does not prove a shared spelling, identity or ancestry. Interviews can preserve an individual’s words and context, while credits and other records help verify a production. These examples show two uses connected to Punjab; they are not a statistical survey of people named Sana.[3]
