Study and literary forms
A 2019 Spokesman profile places Manjit Tiwana’s literary formation in Chandigarh and in the pages of Nagmani, edited by Amrita Pritam. It says her first poem appeared in that magazine. The profile attributes two Panjab University master’s degrees to her: psychology in 1969 and English in 1973, followed by a psychology doctorate in 1984. It also records a 1975 diploma in Indian theatre, covering acting and direction. These educational details remain the profile’s account. Its works list shows a writer moving across forms: Ilham, Ilzam and Tarian Di Jot appear among the poetry collections; Savitri is identified as a longer narrative poem, and Satmanzila Samundar as a novel. The record places poetic publication beside theatre training and extended imaginative writing.[1]
A translated poetic encounter
Hindwi’s Tohfa presents Tiwana in Ram Singh Chahal’s Hindi translation. Its printed-source credit identifies O Pankhuri, a 2004 Samvad Prakashan edition, page 128. The poem is compressed around a first-person speaker and an unnamed other. Mutual fear, recurring visits and a sudden change organise the brief encounter. The shift from habitual action to a single day changes the poem’s pace. Its contrast between artificial and natural gifts does not produce a simple reconciliation: the speaker’s response interrupts the expectation of a happier ending. The force comes from compression and discontinuity, allowing a short poetic exchange to sustain uncertainty. This is a constructed voice within a published poem, without an assumption that it documents the poet’s own relationships.[2]
A dated poetry edition
Uninda Vartman remains visible in a later publication record. The Gandhi Smriti Library at LBSNAA catalogues a 64-page collection of poems under Tiwana’s name, issued by Navyug Publishers in New Delhi in 2014. That identifies a particular edition; the catalogue alone cannot date its first appearance.[3]
