From Gujrat to international hockey
Manzoor Hussain Atif was a Pakistani hockey player and later an administrator in the sport. Olympedia records his birthplace as Gujrat in Punjab. Sources differ on the day and month of his birth in 1928, so those details should be treated with care. He served in the army and became known as a hockey defender. His name is also rendered Mansoor in some records; event, team and career details help distinguish him from other players with similar names. A sporting biography can connect his Punjab origins to international competition without assuming that a place alone explains a career.[1]
Olympic medals
The International Hockey Federation records Atif as a member of Pakistan’s team that won the 1960 Olympic gold medal in Rome, defeating India 1–0 in the final.[2]
Olympedia lists his four Olympic appearances and three team medals: silver in 1956, gold in 1960 and silver in 1964. His first appearance was at Helsinki in 1952, when Pakistan placed fourth.[1]
These medals belong to the team events in which he played; they are not individual hockey medals. A federation account and a competition database can be read together to check years and results. Individual match reports can add detail about a particular game without replacing the tournament record.[2]
Work in hockey administration
After his playing career, Atif held roles in hockey administration. The International Hockey Federation reported that he joined its council in 1968, served as a vice-president from 1982 to 2000 and contributed to its rules work. Its obituary is an institutional tribute as well as a source for those dates. Later responsibilities should be distinguished from his appearances on the field, and titles should be dated rather than assumed to be permanent. His career shows a connection between playing, organising and shaping the sport’s institutions, though a complete history would also consider the work of many colleagues and teams.[3][2]
