A midfielder from Haryana

Navjot Kaur is an Indian field hockey midfielder associated with Shahabad Markanda in Haryana. In an interview with Scroll, she described her family’s life there and her route into the sport. Hockey India describes her as hailing from Haryana. The place matters when describing her regional background: Haryana and the present Indian state of Punjab are distinct, although they share histories and sporting networks in the wider region. She should also be distinguished from the hockey player Navneet Kaur and other athletes with similar names.[2][3]

International hockey

Hockey India reported that Navjot played her fiftieth international match against Belgium at the Hockey World League semi-finals in June 2015. Its report describes her as a midfielder. An international cap records a player’s appearance for a national side, and a milestone report provides a dated snapshot rather than a permanent career total. The precise number of later appearances may change as records are updated. Team lists and match reports are useful for checking which tournament a player entered and should be used before attributing a result to an individual. The federation’s report dates the milestone to the opening day of that international competition.[2]

Olympics and Asian Games

Scroll’s 2022 profile records Navjot’s participation in India’s women’s teams at the Rio and Tokyo Olympics, the 2013 Junior World Cup and the 2014 and 2018 Asian Games. It identifies bronze and silver team medals at the latter two Asian Games respectively. These are collective results, not individual medals in a separate event. The article also describes her return to the team for the 2022 FIH Nations Cup after illness prevented her participation in that year’s Commonwealth Games. Its account is a dated profile, so later team selections require separate verification.[1][3]
