Commercial roads and the shape of growth
A commercial-roads map notified in March 2025 places Arifwala within routes towards Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Burewala and Qabola. It also identifies Karkhana Bazar and Thana Bazar within the street network. These named corridors give the town a specific trading geography. The map distinguishes roads and adjacent land uses rather than treating the whole of Arifwala tehsil as one continuous urban settlement.[1]
Its planning recommendations distinguish established built-up areas, site-development zones and areas beyond them. Some road segments were recommended to continue existing commercial activity, while others were to be held for future decisions or governed by proposed design parameters. The document is evidence of how municipal growth was being organised. It does not prove that every proposed building had been constructed or that every roadside property had the same legal status.[1]
Housing research and neighbourhood connections
Muhammad Faheem and colleagues’2016 study examined selected low-income housing areas and neighbouring residential blocks around Arifwala. Its methods describe updating an old municipal list through field visits, then selecting nine areas for one part of the research. Separate questionnaires addressed residents within those areas and people in surrounding neighbourhoods. The study offers a local investigation of housing and social connections, rather than a census of the town.[2]
The researchers reported that neighbouring respondents recognised links through employment and business activity, as well as concerns about infrastructure. Their findings resist describing these neighbourhoods as isolated from the rest of Arifwala. The paper also contains inconsistent numerical totals, so its published deprivation and health percentages are not adopted here. Its useful evidence is the documented research approach and the reported relationships within a limited sample.[2]
A local college in a university network
Arifwala’s educational landscape includes Government Graduate College for Women. Punjab University’s affiliation record lists arts and science associate-degree provision for 2024–25, and bachelor’s programmes in English, Islamic Studies and Economics. Its optional subject list includes Punjabi alongside Urdu, Arabic and English Literature. This is a specific institutional setting in which language and general higher education appear together.[3]
The record describes authorised academic provision for a named session; it does not count attendance or show which optional subjects every student actually chose. Read beside the roads map and housing research, it adds an important dimension to the town’s history: local streets connect markets, homes and institutions that serve different groups of residents. None of these records establishes the settlement’s original founding date.[3]
