Two small buildings with detailed surfaces
The federal inventory’s Hindu Temple A at Narowal is a three-storey structure of small bricks and lime mortar on a square plan. A corridor surrounds the main chamber, which has a vaulted roof and cusped arches. Painted panels decorate both outer and inner surfaces. The record places the building broadly within 1857–1947, but supplies no secure foundation year or named dedication.[1]
A separate entry describes Narowal Marhi, a much smaller square chamber measuring about 3.4 metres on each side. Its southern entrance and façade carry rectangular and cusped panels with raised leaf motifs. Burnt brick, lime and plaster form its fabric. The inventory places it in the Sikh-period range 1799–1849. These two records preserve different architectural forms without requiring an invented story about who commissioned, occupied or continues to use either building.[2]
Distance learning has a local address
Allama Iqbal Open University dates its Narowal regional centre to 3 September 2013. Its stated address is on Lahore Road near Ransiwal Phatak. The centre’s history describes support through an e-library, telephone contact, electronic communication and a student-facilitation service during admissions. These practical arrangements make a national distance-learning institution locally accessible through an office, staff and points of contact.[3]
The university also describes examination centres at tehsil level and admission-information points around the region. The distinction between the city office and this wider network matters: regional students need not all live in Narowal city or attend the same building. The record documents an institutional effort to connect dispersed learners with teaching materials and assessment. Its undated enrolment totals are unnecessary to establish the centre’s foundation and the forms of support it describes.[3]
Teaching the skills of visual culture
At the University of Narowal, the Fine Arts department’s published curriculum joins studio practice with historical study. It lists drawing, printmaking, sculpture, miniature painting, calligraphy and digital art, alongside courses in art criticism, South Asian art history and Islamic art and architecture. The sequence makes visual education more than the acquisition of a single craft: students are expected to make objects, interpret images and situate forms within historical traditions.[4]
The department also states aims involving exhibitions, workshops, research and the documentation of cultural heritage. These are educational objectives, not proof of every proposed activity’s completion. Read beside the painted temple and marhi, they suggest a useful relationship between surviving fabric and the skills needed to study it. Narowal’s cultural history includes buildings inherited from earlier periods and institutions through which people learn to see, describe and create visual work today.[4]
