A town name and a wider study area

A 2013 National Agricultural Research Centre study examined livelihoods across Noorpur Thal tehsil. Visits and consultations distinguished rainfed, irrigated, waterlogged and river-floodplain environments. The town’s name therefore labels a much larger research area in this report; its landscape observations do not describe every urban street.[1]

The researchers linked gram cultivation and livestock to the region’s livelihood history while assessing possibilities for diversification. Their report combines observations with proposed interventions, including different irrigation and enterprise options. Those feasibility proposals are evidence of development questions being considered in 2013, rather than proof that every suggested technology was installed or that all households adopted the same way of earning a living.[1]

A place in the weather-observation network

The study dates Noorpur Thal’s meteorological station to 2003 and discusses weather information for agricultural decisions. It recommends forecasting and insurance, connecting measurement to the practical problem of variable rainfall. Those recommendations do not establish that an insurance scheme was operating.[1]

PMD’s own observatory list identifies Noorpur Thal as a named station and supplies a reference position at 31 degrees 52 minutes north and 71 degrees 54 minutes east. The atlas uses that rounded station reference, with its limited precision. It represents an observation site; it neither defines the town’s boundary nor locates every farm whose rainfall conditions the research discusses.[2]

Materials for vocational learning

A separate institutional record comes from Noorpur Thal’s Vocational Training Institute, near Darbar Baba Saiden Shah. Its October 2025 tender sought laboratory consumables through the Punjab Vocational Training Council system. The technical schedule includes a dress-making trade, with cotton cloth, sewing-machine bobbin cases, needles, thread, measuring tapes and pattern-drawing tools among the requested materials.[3]

Such a procurement document makes practical teaching visible through the supplies it requires. It identifies a specific town institution and a particular request, rather than reporting student enrolment or employment after training. A tender also does not prove that the goods were purchased and delivered. Read alongside landscape research and a weather station, it shows several distinct forms of knowledge being organised in and around Noorpur Thal.[3]
