Connections recorded in a road plan
Pir Mahal’s 2025–45 structure-road plan was notified on 16 April 2025. The sheet distinguishes existing transport lines from proposed roads, road widening and a ring road. It also separates the built-up area, municipal boundaries and urban growth limit. Its alignment coordinates describe planning nodes, rather than verified positions of individual historic buildings or a single centre point for the town.[1]
The sheet records a municipal planning framework, including links towards neighbouring settlements. Construction and opening of each proposed road section require separate evidence; a future alignment is not a completed route.[1]
Land uses and a named public institution
A separate land-use sheet, notified on 12 March 2025, names Kamalia, Rajana, Shorkot and Sandhillianwali roads, the Pir Mahal bypass, the M-3 and the Gogera Branch Canal. Its legend distinguishes settlements, institutional land and housing schemes at different approval stages. The document explicitly warns that mapping an existing use does not regularise or convert an individual property.[2]
Public-service records add a different view of the town. Punjab’s Special Education Department lists a Government Special Education Centre in Allama Iqbal Town, on 320 Road near Muhammadia Masjid. The directory identifies a specific educational institution and locality. It supplies neither a founding date nor a measure of enrolment, accessibility or the full range of services available to learners.[3]
A community account, read in its own time
Pir Mahal also appears in John Pontifex’s 2008 article for Thinking Faith, the journal of the Jesuits in Britain. Drawing on a priest’s report to Aid to the Church in Need, he described threats faced by Christian residents following a religious allegation in the previous year. The account says residents remained indoors and that losing access to daily-wage work intensified their insecurity.[4]
Pontifex’s report describes church representatives contacting officials and an eventual restoration of calm. It is a dated advocacy and correspondence-based account, rather than a judicial finding or a description of all residents’ views. Preserving that attribution allows the experiences it records to enter the town’s history without treating an allegation as proven, or projecting conditions reported in 2007 onto Pir Mahal today.[4]
