An inland point for clearing goods
Sambrial’s dry port emerged from a collective business initiative. The Sialkot Dry Port Trust dates its foundation to 1984, when fifty-two exporters and businessmen contributed personal, non-returnable funds. Its institutional history distinguishes the start of operations in 1985 from the formal inauguration in 1986. The aim was to let regional firms clear customs locally instead of carrying out that process only after their goods reached Karachi.[1]
The trust places the facility at Sambrial and identifies industries in Sialkot, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, Daska and Gujrat among those served. Its described functions include customs examination, bonded warehousing and the transport of sealed cargo. A dry port is therefore a link between inland manufacturing and distant sea or air terminals. Sambrial’s role concerns the organisation of goods in transit, as well as the physical roads on which consignments travel.[1]
A separately administered industrial zone
The Sialkot Export Processing Zone is another institution located at Sambrial. EPZA’s official overview places it on the Sialkot–Wazirabad Road and traces it to an agreement with the Punjab Small Industries Corporation. It describes a developed area of 238 acres and dates operational activity to 2005. The Sialkot name identifies a regional industrial connection; it does not move the estate from its stated Sambrial location.[2]
The overview separates institutional responsibilities: the provincial corporation allocated plots on an ownership basis, while EPZA supplied operational facilities under its rules and procedures. It names investment in surgical and sports goods, leather products, garments, furniture and imitation jewellery. These details give the estate a defined administrative and production setting. Its boundary and figures should not be extended to all of Sambrial, and historical export values do not establish the town’s current economic output.[2]
Products and the work surrounding them
EPZA’s investor directory adds detail at the level of individual plots. Its Sambrial addresses include Kicker Sports for sporting goods, Utex for garments and related textiles, Sun Steel for steel pipes, and ACME Surgical for surgical, dental and veterinary instruments. The range demonstrates several production specialisms within the same estate, rather than a single-product industrial settlement. Each entry describes a listed business activity at a specified institutional address.[3]
Other entries reveal work surrounding the better-known finished goods. Integral Marketing lists zippers, buttons and garment accessories; Rainbow Industry lists corrugated cartons and packaging boxes; YYK Zipper Industry also appears as a component maker. Clothing and instruments depend on supplies, components and packaging as well as final assembly. A directory is not a verified count of current jobs or trading volumes, but it makes Sambrial’s industrial landscape more concrete than a general claim about exports.[3]
