An inventoried settlement beneath the name

The federal archaeological inventory records Sangla Hill as a ruined settlement site with exposed structures and pottery sherds. It gives dimensions of about 150 by 125 metres and a height of eight metres. Those measurements concern the recorded archaeological site, rather than the modern town. The surviving evidence described is material: fragments of buildings and objects visible in different parts of the ruined area.[1]

The record assigns ancient-period associations but does not provide an excavation sequence establishing continuous occupation. It cannot, on its own, identify the place with a particular city mentioned in a classical campaign narrative. The atlas uses its surveyed point as an archaeological reference. This allows an older settlement layer to remain visible while leaving the modern town’s extent, population and foundation as separate research questions.[1]

A school rebuilt through several phases

Sangla Hill’s Christian Girls’ school supplies a different history through its own institutional account. It records nationalisation in 1972, while a boarding facility continued under Presbyterian Education Board management. The school returned to PEB control in 1998 with buildings requiring extensive repair. Its account describes high-school teaching resuming within the hostel during the early 1990s, before the main premises were returned.[2]

Reconstruction followed in stages. A new boarding facility funded by Presbyterian Women in the United States was inaugurated in April 2001; a modern school building supported by the Dutch Oikonomos Foundation followed in two phases during 2005–2008. In 2012 the school added grades eleven and twelve in science and liberal arts. The account also identifies science laboratories, a library and computer teaching. This chronology connects local classrooms and boarding provision with overseas support, while distinguishing the institution’s history from a claim about all education in Sangla Hill.[2]

A railway crossing changes the street network

A December 2004 APP report records the inauguration of a railway underpass at Sangla Hill, completed at a reported cost of twenty million rupees. The ceremony brought the railway minister together with railway management and local representatives. The underpass is a specific example of infrastructure joining movement through the town with the railway, rather than a date for the railway junction’s original establishment.[3]

The same event included announcements of a Faisalabad–Lahore train stop at Sangla Hill and track improvements towards Wazirabad. Those statements belong to a programme described at the time; they are not a current timetable or proof that every proposed improvement followed. Together, the archaeological inventory, school chronology and crossing report document different ways the place has been occupied, taught in and travelled through.[3]
