Evidence record · given name

Meaning and use are separate questions.

Lexical evidence: A dictionary-based meaning for the complete personal name has not been established here.

Documented use: Gurmeet Kaur is documented in Punjabi children’s publishing; Gurmeet Bawa in cultural programmes. An ICCR entry explicitly gives Gurmit Bawa as a variant for that performer.

Gurmeet Kaur in children’s publishing

Fascinating Folktales of Punjab presents Gurmeet Kaur as the founder of a children’s publishing project launched in April 2013. Its biography describes a move from engineering and software architecture towards Punjabi-language books for young readers. The stories are presented in Punjabi with English translation, connecting the author’s public name with a particular kind of language and literary work.[1]

The same account describes a 2018 Undivided Punjab Edition using Gurmukhi and Shahmukhi alongside English translation. That edition’s format addresses readers connected with both sides of Punjab. Gurmeet Kaur is the author form used on the biography; the page does not explain the original choice or literal derivation of Gurmeet.[1]

Gurmeet Bawa in performance records

Sangeet Natak Akademi’s 2018–19 annual report names Gurmeet Bawa in an Amritsar festival programme. The festival ran from 19 to 23 November 2018 in collaboration with Guru Nanak Dev University and Punjab Sangeet Natak Akadmi. The Wednesday performance listing assigns Bawa to folk songs of Punjab, within the Folk and Tribal Arts session. This identifies the name through an organised public performance context. The performance venue is identified as the Indian Academy of Fine Arts’ Art Gallery in Amritsar.[2]

A separate Ministry of Culture report dated 23 March 2021 names Gurmeet Bawa and Glory Bawa rendering devotional songs at the Bhagat Singh museum in Khatkar Kalan. The report supplies another dated occurrence of the written form, in a commemorative programme.[4]

An explicitly linked spelling variant

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations directory provides unusually direct evidence about a variant. Row 697 prints Gurmeet Bawa with Gurmit Bawa in parentheses, associates the entry with Amritsar, and classifies the work as Punjab folk music. Here the directory itself links the two spellings to one performer. That documented connection helps identify Bawa across records, while leaving other people’s preferred spellings and personal name histories open.[3]
