Evidence record · personal name

Meaning and use are separate questions.

Lexical evidence: Platts records maryam/mariyam as the proper name Mary.

Documented use: Contemporary academic credits.

A historical proper-name equivalence

Platts’s original dictionary records maryam, also written mariyam, as the proper name Mary and refers to the Virgin Mary. This is a historical name equivalence within that reference work. It is different from a literal etymological explanation of why the name exists or why somebody chose it. The recorded association does not assign a religion to an individual Maryam. Nor does one printed alternative establish a universal rule for converting every modern record between Maryam and Mary. A bearer’s own documented spelling remains a separate piece of evidence.[1]

Maryam Nawaz Awan’s physics CV

A CV hosted by the University of the Punjab’s computing college is headed Maryam Nawaz Awan. Its education table concerns Physics: a B.Sc. from 2005–2009, an M.Phil. in Solid State Physics from 2009–2011, and a theoretical-physics doctorate listed from 2013 without a closing date. That last entry does not establish completion of the doctorate. The selected page records Physics teaching at Kinnaird College between September 2011 and March 2013, alongside a visiting PUCIT entry from July 2012 to February 2015. The college hosting the file does not change the subjects printed in its qualification fields. The CV describes Kinnaird work as lecturing in Physics and labels its PUCIT appointment as visiting. The full header and dated entries preserve a precise academic name credit.[2]

Maryam Batool’s economics degree notice

A University of the Punjab notice dated 1 June 2026 credits Maryam Batool with a PhD in Economics. The Lahore announcement states that the degree followed approval of a thesis concerning Pakistan’s online platform economy. This establishes the university’s dated award announcement and the name it uses for the recipient. The notice does not supply the thesis’s findings, a subsequent job or an explanation of the recipient’s naming choice.[3]
