A word for jasmine

Rekhta’s dictionary gives yāsmiin, written یاسمین in its entry, as a word for jasmine. Yasmin and Yasmeen are Roman spellings used in names, but an English spelling does not by itself establish how an individual writes or pronounces their name in another script. The word’s floral association is a useful interpretation, not proof of a particular family’s choice. Names and related words are used across languages and communities, and a shared form does not establish religion or ancestry. A Lahore broadcasting career

Dawn’s obituary identifies Yasmin Tahir as a broadcaster and actor born in Lahore. It describes her association with Radio Pakistan and programmes including Saat Rang. A later account of a life can bring together career details and tributes, but its description of an individual does not explain every bearer of the name. The name appears as Yasmin in this report; another person may prefer Yasmeen or a different form. The obituary provides evidence of a public career and a Punjab connection through Lahore, not evidence of the meaning her family intended. Dawn reports that Tahir formally joined Radio Pakistan as a publicity officer in 1958 and that Saat Rang ran for twelve years.[2]

A university record

A University of the Punjab curriculum vitae is headed Yasmin Nilofer Farooqi and lists appointments in applied psychology at the university in Lahore, including a professorship from 2000. The document is an institutional copy of a CV and its present-tense wording should be read as a snapshot rather than a guarantee of current employment. The scholar and broadcaster are separate individuals. A name appearing in public records of broadcasting and education illustrates its use across different settings; it does not make the two people related or establish how frequently the name occurs.[3]
