A first song
In a 2015 Youlin Magazine interview, singer Abrar-ul-Haq recalled that the idea for Billo de Ghar came to him during a morning run while he was preparing for civil service examinations. He said he sang parts of it to friends and family, whose encouragement led him to develop it further. Youlin dates his debut album to 1995. This later recollection does not independently establish the album’s total sales.[1]
A contemporary response
A. Shamim discussed Billo in the April 1996 issue of Himal Southasia alongside Sajjad Ali’s Chief Saab. The article described the song’s popularity and reported objections from some women’s organisations to its lyrics. It also quoted Abrar responding to criticism and saying that he intended the song as a story of love. This contemporary account records more than one reaction to the song at a particular moment. Shamim placed the discussion within a wider report on Pakistani popular music, discussing Punjabi and Urdu songs together and their reception among different listeners. The account does not establish a single view among listeners, and its description of the lyrics is the writer’s interpretation rather than a substitute for studying the song itself.[2]
Education and a medical project
In the Youlin interview Abrar described school activities in Gujrat that introduced him to voluntary work, including offering water to passengers at a bus stop. He connected those experiences and his parents’ example to his later interest in helping others. The profile describes the establishment of SAHARA for Life Trust and the Sughra Shafi Medical Complex in Narowal, named in memory of his mother. It also reports charitable relief work. These details describe the project as presented in 2015; the interview does not by itself establish current services, patient numbers or the organisation’s present leadership.[1]
