A school in Rawalpindi

Viqar-un-Nisa Noon’s work in education took institutional form through the Rawalpindi school society established under her chairmanship in 1953. The school’s history distinguishes that society from the foundation stone laid in 1954 and the beginning of classes in 1956. It credits Tahira Vahidy with preparing the curriculum under Noon’s guidance and serving as the first principal. The account describes a curriculum with a modern outlook alongside Urdu and religious study, with teaching and boarding connected in the same project. Later expansion brought college classes. The institutional history dates the graduation of its first college cohort to 1966. The 1972 nationalisation of the college section led to a reconstituted school society. These stages show patronage working through staff, governance and educational provision over time. They should not be collapsed into one opening ceremony or treated as the founder’s work alone.[1]

Supporting study abroad

The Vicky Noon Educational Foundation’s own history describes another educational commitment. Established in 1992, it aimed to support talented Pakistani scholars at Oxford and Cambridge and strengthen links between countries Noon considered home. Its account records her attendance at the first trustees’ meeting and the development of scholarship selection. Academic promise and financial need were central to the stated purpose. This extended the educational project beyond a single school: support could connect students educated in Pakistan with university study abroad. The foundation presents these aims as part of her legacy. Its description is evidence of institutional purpose, rather than an independent assessment of every scholarship’s outcome.[2]

Posthumous support

In 2021, LUMS announced a PKR 11 million gift from the Viqarun Nisa & Feroz Khan Noon Trust for Education. The university named the endowment after Lady Noon and described support for graduate study, recording a posthumous institutional legacy.[3]
