Early musical memories

In a 2006 interview with Kavita Chhibber, Gurdas Maan recalled hearing his mother and grandmother sing while working at home. He also described listening to music on Radio Jullundur and Radio Pakistan and named singers including Surinder Kaur and Asa Singh Mastana among the voices he encountered. His account connects domestic music-making and broadcasting in his own memories of growing up. Those recollections are the artist’s description of his influences, not a complete record of his training or proof of a direct musical apprenticeship. The interview itself is a written source; it does not substitute for listening to the songs discussed.[1]

An album and planned tour

A 2011 Indian Express interview accompanied the release of Maan’s album Jogiya. The report describes him as a singer, songwriter and actor and identifies Dil Da Mamla Hai with the start of his wider public recognition around 1980. In the interview Maan discussed his interest in lyrics and melody and named poets whose writing he admired. The article also reported a planned UK tour and a Royal Albert Hall appearance. Those were future events at the date of the report and are not presented here as independently verified performances. The album and concert recordings were not reviewed for this entry.[2]

A film-award record

The Directorate of Film Festivals’ record of the 54th National Film Awards identifies Gurdas Maan as recipient of the 2006 award for best male playback singer for the Punjabi film Waris Shah: Ishq Da Waris. The citation refers to his singing of Heer in the film. This official record identifies a particular award and the work recognised by its jury; it does not establish that the film or soundtrack has been reviewed for this article. It adds documentary evidence of his work across singing and cinema to the interview accounts, without relying on a current ranking or an unsourced count of albums.[3]
