Life and connection to Punjab
Mustansar Hussain Tarar is a Pakistani writer and broadcaster associated with Lahore. Accounts differ about his birthplace: Rekhta gives Lahore, while a Youlin Magazine profile cites his own book for Ghakhar Mandi. The discrepancy remains unresolved.[4][5]
From Lahore study to travel writing
Mustansar Hussain Tarar's March 2017 interview with Nasir Abbas Nayyar traces travel writing back to an invitation to put experience into words. Tarar recalled studying at Government College, Lahore, and travelling from England to Moscow in an episode he dated to 1958. On his return to London, Majid Nizami asked him to write about the Moscow journey. London Se Moscow Tak appeared in three parts in Qandeel. He recalled feeling more comfortable with English than Urdu then. He distinguished that beginning from the later travel book Niklay Teri Talash Mein, published in 1971. The interview preserves his recollection of entering print through a request, a journey and a periodical publication.[1]
Broadcasting and a writer’s habits
Saira Agha's August 2017 interview records other professional forms. Tarar described television acting and playwriting before hosting, presenting writing and broadcasting as parts of a freelance working life. The accompanying feature identifies the live PTV morning programme Subah Bakhair and recalls the time he devoted to addressing children during the transmission. He also distinguished his travelling from an ordinary holiday: moving through places supplied observation and material for writing. Asked about reading, he named Shafiqur Rahman and Rajinder Singh Bedi, spoke of an interest in philosophy and mentioned enjoying Haruki Murakami. These answers connect public broadcast work with habits of watching, travelling and reading. They offer a dated account of his practice without requiring the repeated travel-origin story to serve as a second independent confirmation.[2]
Two books in a publisher’s notice
Sang-e-meel's 12 May 2020 notice identifies two later travel books: Sanam Kadah Cambodia and Vietnam Tere Naam. The publisher reports a conversation with Tarar and readings from the books. The notice documents those named publications; the linked recording and complete books were not reviewed here.[3]
