Several centres under one city name
Jhang is easier to understand as a city with several historical centres than as a single compact old settlement. Mohammad Waseem and colleagues’2010 study distinguishes Jhang City, the older core, from Meghiana, which became Jhang Sadar under British administration. It records the movement of courts and offices to the latter because of flood concerns, and identifies Satellite Town as a 1960 saddition.[1]
The study places this urban landscape within the alluvial country of the Chenab and Jhelum, meeting near Trimmu southwest of the city. The city and district remain different geographical units in its account. The three-part description explains why historic references to Jhang City, Sadar or Meghiana need attention to location; they cannot automatically be treated as names for precisely the same streets.[1]
A college created in stages
Chenab College’s institutional history provides a precise later chronology. It records a public-school proposal in 1986, registration of the Jhang Educational Trust in 1989, and the start of classes in a rented building in February 1991. The institution moved to its present campus in April 1993. Its address is on Chiniot Road outside the central city, rather than within the old town.[2]
This sequence distinguishes a political announcement, an organising trust, teaching and occupation of a campus. They were successive events, not a single founding ceremony. The history also records land allocations for the institution. These concern an educational site and do not measure Jhang’s municipal area. The account documents the college’s development without adopting its promotional comparisons with other schools.[2]
University and regional learning networks
The Higher Education Commission lists the University of Jhang as a recognised public university chartered by Punjab, with establishment in 2015. The university’s own account identifies scientific and computer laboratories, a library and an E-Rozgar centre among its facilities. These records add higher education and training to Jhang’s institutional landscape; they do not establish the quality or current capacity of every programme.[3][4]
Allama Iqbal Open University supplies a different regional network. Its Jhang campus history dates the centre to 2007 and its own building to February 2017, on Toba Road. It describes academic and administrative support extending to Jhang, Chiniot and Toba Tek Singh districts. A campus in the city therefore serves a wider catchment without making all those districts part of urban Jhang.[5]
