A town description

The Bahawalpur gazetteer carrying a 1904 title and a 1908 imprint describes Khairpur as a mound-top town with a winding bazaar. Its three sections had separate names; shops were mostly brick-built, and stretches had reed roofing. The account connects sand-covered streets with neighbouring dunes.[1]

It dates the municipality to 1883 and describes eight nominated members under the tehsildar and his deputy. Its institutional list includes schools, a dispensary, post office, courts and municipal office. Cloth printing, earthenware and grain appear in its trade description. This is an early-twentieth-century administrative portrait, rather than a survey of today’s town.[1]

Technical education

TEVTA’s institutional directory records a technical training centre established in 2008 and a separate women’s centre established in 2009 at Khairpur Tamewali. Both entries locate their premises near Thana Mor and Zarai Traqiyati Bank. These are two foundation records; the directory does not establish their current courses or admissions.[2]

Services and planning

APP reported the inauguration of solid-waste services in Khairpur Tamewali tehsil on 6 January 2025. The ceremony brought together local administrators, contractors, sanitation staff and the Bahawalpur Waste Management Company. Its chief executive, Naeem Akhtar, described intended coverage for eight urban union councils and 107 villages and suburban areas.[3]

He also reported a deployed fleet of 167 vehicles and plans for monitoring through a vehicle-tracking system. Those claims concern the wider tehsil scheme. They cannot be converted into municipal-town totals or a guarantee of continuing daily coverage.[3]

A separate municipal classification sheet distinguishes municipal, tehsil and outline-development-plan boundaries. Its printed approval-date spaces are blank. The sheet depicts land-use categories but expressly does not designate or regularize use for individual parcels. It therefore supplies a planning record without establishing a dated approval or present property entitlement.[4]
