Jamia and university
Bahawalpur’s university history includes the earlier Jamia Abbasia. The History Department’s own account dates its beginnings to 1925 and describes an initial focus on Islamic history. It associates the institution’s later development with a wider range of historical study. The university dates its upgrading from Jamia Abbasia to 1975.[2]
The same departmental page describes seminars, research discussions and conferences as ways of extending historical understanding. It also presents an Archaeology and Heritage Study Center as a proposed project. This is evidence of how the department frames its regional heritage work; the page does not establish that the centre was completed.[2]
School and admissions
Sadiq Public School distinguishes its foundation ceremony on 4 March 1953 from its inauguration on 18 January 1954. Its account credits Sadiq Mohammad Khan Abbasi with providing land and construction funding, and names Makhdoomzada Hassan Mahmud as the project’s supervisor. The initial complex included an academic block, boarding houses and staff accommodation.[1]
The school began with girls and boys, but stopped admitting girls in 1966. A separate girls’ section began in May 2003. Its new academic building was completed in July 2008, with lessons beginning there in October. These milestones show that the school’s history includes changes in admission and teaching space as well as its opening.[1]
The public library
APP’s report of 14 January 2025 records a visit to Central Library Bahawalpur during repair and renovation work. The scheme included a canteen, store, toilet block and souvenir shop. Secretary Muhammad Khan Ranjha inspected the ongoing works and directed attention to construction quality.[3]
Chief Librarian Javed Iqbal Rana described an approved 120-million-rupee development scheme. Furniture, books, computers and other equipment were to be provided. The report captures a library being adapted for educational use, while leaving the completion of those purchases and works unverified.[3]
