Municipality and district

Rajanpur’s municipal history dates its municipality to 1873 and its emergence as a separate district to 1982. These describe different levels of administration. A municipal body serving a town and a district containing several settlements cannot be treated as the same geographical unit or as having one foundation date.[1]

The undated municipal page also recounts a transfer of government offices from Mithankot after nineteenth-century flooding. That account concerns an administrative move, not the disappearance of every earlier settlement. The page supplies no founding inscription or underlying archival document, so its origin chronology is not adopted here. Nor is an old district area used to define today’s town.[1]

The old bazaar and later plans

The 2024 Urban Unit report describes Rajanpur’s older core as rectangular, on relatively higher ground, with a north–south bazaar. Its review of the 1984–2010 outline plan records proposals to relocate markets and bus facilities, improve roads and create open space. These are intentions, not completed works.[2]

It separately describes a 2023–31 site-development framework and a land-use classification plan still in progress. These different stages document attempts to guide growth, without proving implementation of every proposed use.[2]

A town hospital with a wider catchment

Waseem Akram’s 2019 PIDE dissertation examines referral journeys through DHQ Hospital Rajanpur and the separate THQ hospitals at Jampur and Rojhan. Its questionnaires address travel, waiting, costs and communication between facilities. The study therefore concerns a district-wide network centred partly on a town hospital, rather than a survey of Rajanpur town alone.[3]

The thesis combines patient and practitioner responses and recommends clearer referral information and feedback. Those recommendations are evidence of service questions being studied, not proof that a new referral system was installed. Inconsistent descriptions of sampling and some numerical results make it inappropriate to turn the thesis into a current population-wide measure of access.[3]

A Punjab health-department connectivity tender independently lists DHQ Hospital Rajanpur on Katchahry Road and supplies its reference coordinates. The atlas marks that named facility. Inclusion in a bidding document does not prove that a particular internet contract was awarded or that the connection was delivered.[4]
