Begin with the research library

Lahore Museum’s Research and Reference Library is a route into the literature surrounding its collections. Its own description lists books, periodicals, pamphlets, reports and articles, with strengths including archaeology, numismatics, crafts and conservation. The periodical list includes Urdu newspapers and the annual report on the working of the Central Museum, Lahore. These are different kinds of evidence: an annual administrative report may answer a question that an exhibition guide does not. The page lists reference assistance, scanning and membership categories. Confirm arrangements for the particular material; a general service description does not establish that every volume can be copied or borrowed.[1]

Identify the catalogue and its edition

The museum’s publications list separates general guides from subject catalogues. It names catalogues of coins, paintings, manuscripts and Gandharan sculpture, alongside the museum’s bulletin. Its coin entries distinguish original volumes from later reprints. Record the author, full title, volume and edition when following one of these leads. A reprint’s date need not be the date the object was catalogued. The list is useful bibliographical evidence, but it is not the contents of those books. This guide has not inspected their individual entries or established that an older catalogue number still matches a current display label.[2]

Keep the object and its digital capture distinct

A dated project shows another layer of documentation. In June 2025, Korea.net reported the Korea Heritage Service and Korea Heritage Agency’s 3D recording of Lahore Museum’s Fasting Buddha, undertaken with museum permission. The report also describes training museum staff in scanning. Cite this as an account of a recording project, identifying the sculpture, recording organisations and report date separately. It does not supply an openly downloadable model or a licence for this website to reproduce one. A digital capture, a catalogue description and physical examination answer different research questions; none automatically replaces the others.[3]
