Number order
The layout reference describes Arabic-script text as right to left while numbers run left to right. Its numeral table identifies the digits used in the two checked excerpts below. This is a shared layout principle from an explicitly Arabic/Persian reference; the Punjabi examples themselves come from the separate dictionary. Copy the digits in their displayed order rather than reversing a number to match the surrounding text’s direction. Check the complete sequence before reading its value.[1]
Checked numerals
The dictionary’s correlative example under اینج دا contains ۲۰۱۰, and its English translation gives 2010. This lesson extracts the numeral sequence rather than repeating the whole sentence. Follow the digits in order and compare your copy with the source excerpt. Use the translation to check the numerical reading, while leaving the example’s wider educational-policy statement outside this activity.[2]
Compare the second checked excerpt
The لاہور entry contains ۱۸۸۴ in a different example, paired with 1884 in its English translation. Compare the repeated middle digit with the first excerpt’s pattern, then copy the complete sequence. The exercise asks you to identify 2010 from these actual published numeral excerpts. It does not ask you to reverse their digits, infer a new Punjabi spelling or treat either source example as an independently verified timeline event. Check every digit before choosing.[3]
Your learning objective
Recognise ۲۰۱۰ and ۱۸۸۴ as the checked numeral sequences and distinguish numbers from the direction of surrounding text.
Prerequisites: Complete Shahmukhi lesson 17 before this lesson. Level 18 · Shahmukhi.
