Evidence record · given name

Meaning and use are separate questions.

Lexical evidence: A dictionary-based meaning for the complete personal name has not been established here.

Documented use: Usman Qadir appears in an ICC statement, and Usman Ahmed Khan Buzdar in a dated Punjab Assembly attendance list.

A historical identification, not a promised trait

Rekhta Dictionary records the transliterated form ’usmaan, labels its origin Arabic and identifies the third caliph of Islam in the English meaning field. This is a historical name reference. It should not be rewritten as an English adjective describing the character, prospects or supposed qualities of everyone named Usman.[1]

The entry also supplies attributed poetic examples in which the name appears. Those examples establish a literary setting for the word; the poets’ lines are not reproduced here. The English field’s identification and the modern personal-name occurrences below are different evidence from an individual family’s explanation of why it selected the name.[1]

A full name in an attributed statement

An ICC release dated 8 November 2022 identifies Usman Qadir as the son of Abdul Qadir and attributes a statement to him about his father’s induction into the Hall of Fame. The full names and the explicitly stated relationship distinguish the person speaking from the person being honoured. That relationship comes from the release, not from guessing what Qadir implies.[2]

The notice presents Usman Qadir in an international sporting setting and records his response on behalf of the family. It supplies a particular voice attached to the written name. It does not discuss the derivation of Usman or say that the father and son shared a reason for their different personal names.[2]

A separate dated occurrence in Punjab

The Punjab Assembly’s attendance list for 23 July 2022 records Usman Ahmed Khan Buzdar at row 50, together with constituency PP-286. Usman is therefore also documented within a longer full name in a Punjab legislative record. The document is an attendance list, not a dictionary or a current biography.[3]

Keeping the date, constituency and remaining name elements with the occurrence prevents it from being merged with the cricketer’s record. The two documents demonstrate actual usage in different public settings, without establishing how common the name is or a universal rule about its bearers.[3]
