The town beside the tehsil entry

Hunter’s 1885 Imperial Gazetteer gives separate entries for Alipur tehsil and its headquarters settlement in Muzaffargarh district. The town entry lists a police office, dispensary and sarai, and describes exports of molasses, indigo and snuff. These are dated observations of administrative, traveller and trading services, not present production statistics.[1]

The adjacent tehsil entry covers a much larger tract between the Chenab and Indus. Its area and central coordinate should not be assigned to the settlement. The atlas instead follows the town entry’s own rounded reference point, preserving the distinction between a local centre and its administrative hinterland.[1]

A recent college on Bahawal Canal Road

Alipur College’s institutional timeline dates its foundation on Bahawal Canal Road to 1 November 2019 under Chaudhry Sultan Mehmood. It describes BS teaching and University of Education affiliation from 2020, followed by BEd cohorts completing their programmes in 2021 and 2023. These are the college’s stated milestones, rather than an independently audited history of all education in Alipur.[2]

The timeline explicitly says that year-only dates are still being checked against college records. That qualification matters: a named institutional beginning can be recorded without converting every later milestone into a precisely verified date. Promotional firsts, library totals and degree-outcome guarantees are not used here.[2]

What the university list confirms

The University of Education’s published 2025–26 affiliation list independently names Ali Pur College at the same Bahawal Canal Road address. Its page dates this version to 26 March 2026. The actual table distinguishes extensions for established programmes from new provisional affiliations, rather than giving a permanent blanket approval to every course the college advertises.[3]

The listed programmes include chemistry and English degrees, computing associate and bachelor programmes, and several BEd routes. This is evidence of the institution’s dated academic relationship with the university. It does not establish its founding year or guarantee that every advertised programme is covered. Together, the town entry and these educational records document different activities at different moments.[3]
