A college in the Town Hall

Government Khawaja Fareed Graduate College traces its beginnings to 1948, when the former Bahawalpur State founded the institution in Rahim Yar Khan’s Town Hall. The college takes its name from the poet Khawaja Ghulam Fareed. Its present contact page gives an address on Abu Dhabi Road in Satellite Town, but the short institutional history does not state when the college moved there. The dated foundation and the later address therefore describe different points in the record. The college’s account is one institutional perspective on education in the city, not a complete history of Rahim Yar Khan or a chronology of every change at the institution.[1]

Medical education and a campus

Sheikh Zayed Medical College dates its establishment to March 2003, when it began as a self-financing medical institution. Its own history reports that the Punjab government converted self-finance seats in medical and dental institutions to open-merit seats in 2008. It also records completion of a new college building in 2017 and the movement of basic-science departments and administration to a campus east of Sheikh Zayed Hospital. These milestones distinguish the institution’s founding from a later change of campus. The account also names student societies and publications, illustrating activities recorded by the college; it does not independently verify their present output.[2]

Engineering education and heritage plans

The 2019–20 prospectus of Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology describes a university that began in 2014 with four rooms and four degree programmes. It identifies September 2015 as the appointment of its first vice-chancellor and gives a campus location on Abu Dhabi Road. The prospectus also describes a Cholistan Heritage Museum as being established, with proposed galleries and research and training purposes. That description is evidence of a project in the prospectus, not proof that every planned gallery or service was subsequently delivered. Together, the institutional records show several distinct stages in the city’s educational development.[3]
