A district headquarters
Moga is a town and district headquarters in Punjab, India. The district administration dates the creation of Moga district to 24 November 1995 and says the town had previously been a subdivision of Faridkot district. It places Moga on the Ferozepur–Ludhiana road and records a later change involving Dharamkot block. The town and district are different geographic units: a district boundary includes surrounding settlements and agricultural land, while the town is its administrative centre. A source that uses the older Faridkot district should be read in the context of its date, rather than applied uncritically to the present map.[1]
The district’s farmland
The district agriculture department publishes land-use statistics for 2006–07, including net area sown and irrigation through canals and tubewells. These are figures for the district as a whole, not just Moga town, and describe conditions in the stated agricultural year. They illustrate the close relationship between the district headquarters and the surrounding farming region without implying that all residents work in agriculture. Comparing them with other years requires attention to definitions, source methods and boundaries. Farmers, labourers, traders and transport workers all help connect fields with markets and processing facilities, although aggregate tables do not describe their individual experiences.[2]
Food processing and records
A government economic-census directory lists food-processing establishments in urban Moga district, including a dairy-products establishment on Ferozepur Road. Such directories identify establishments and employment-size categories at a particular time; they are not a live register of operating businesses or a measure of the entire local economy. Moga’s district administration also identifies food processing among local places of interest. The directory can be used alongside company, labour and agricultural records to investigate relationships among milk producers, factory workers and the town. Those different sources can reveal changes that a single list of establishments cannot explain.[3]
