Nihal Singh Wala is a place in Moga district in Indian Punjab. The district’s demography page lists a town by this name, a subdivision, a tehsil and a development block; it describes the town as a nagar panchayat. These labels cover different areas and functions, even when they share a name. The district directory lists both a subdivision office and a civil hospital associated with Nihal Singh Wala. Its service-centre list separately identifies the tehsil office and Badhni Kalan, illustrating how administrative services are distributed across a wider area.[1][2][5]

A census snapshot

The 2011 district census handbook records 170,609 people in Nihal Singhwala tehsil, including 163,823 rural and 6,786 urban residents. Its table puts the urban share at 4.0 per cent, compared with 4.1 per cent in 2001. These totals are for the tehsil boundaries used in that census, rather than a present-day population estimate for the town alone.[3]

The district administration dates Moga district’s formation to 24 November 1995 and says Moga had previously been a subdivision of Faridkot district. It also notes the addition of the Dharamkot block through a 1999 notification. For research on Nihal Singh Wala, those administrative changes are a reminder to check the jurisdiction and year of a record rather than assume that present district boundaries always applied. A district’s creation date is not a date for the founding of the settlement.[6]

Infrastructure as historical evidence

A monitoring committee’s report recorded an inspection-era account of wastewater disposal at Nihal Singh Wala: it described no sewerage system and a pond treatment system under construction, recommending that construction be accelerated. The committee recommended accelerating construction of the six-pond system. Its observation and recommendation record an infrastructure project at a particular stage; they do not establish whether or when it was completed.[4]
