Recognise signs with a nasal role
Cheema’s technical entry distinguishes bindi and tippi and includes bindi with kanna among its written uses. These marks matter when reading and copying the checked spellings. The discussion also distinguishes their functions, so do not reduce every occurrence to one unsupported rule about precisely which nasal sound must be pronounced.[1]
Maya Singh’s 1895 dictionary separately identifies tippi as a Gurmukhi nasal sign and displays its shape. Compare that reference with the mark in the mango word below. Recognising a mark’s written identity is the present task; the correct spoken realisation still requires an appropriate listening model.[2]
Keep bindi in the mother spelling
Maya Singh’s 1895 dictionary records ਮਾਂ with the meaning mother. Find ਮ, the following kanna and the small upper dot. Copy the complete checked word and verify that all three written features remain. Use mother as the selected meaning for this spelling exercise.[3]
Find tippi in the mango spelling
The separate entry gives ਅੰਬ for the mango tree and its fruit. Locate the curved upper tippi in the checked spelling, then follow the final ਬ. Compare that mark with the dot in the mother word before matching each example with its meaning. Keep both marks when copying; deleting an unfamiliar feature would stop your copy from reproducing the actual dictionary headword.[4]
