From Birmingham to the studio
In a 2006 interview with The Telegraph, producer Bally Sagoo described growing up in Birmingham and making mixes while at school. He recalled approaching music through the Black music he heard around him before combining bhangra material with other beats. The interview traces his early work with Oriental Star Agencies and identifies Wham Bam as a 1990 remix album. It also discusses Magic Touch, a collaboration with singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. These are Sagoo’s recollections and the newspaper’s account of a career in production. The interview is useful for understanding how he described his early working environment, rather than a complete discography.[1]
Looking back on collaborations
In a 2025 Eastern Eye interview, Sagoo returned to the work involved in production and recalled collaborating with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. He described Magic Touch as important to him and dated the recording to 1991. He also remembered making Aby Baby with Amitabh Bachchan in a Birmingham studio and spoke about exploring instruments and musical influences from different places. The interview presents the producer’s own retrospective view, including his opinions about craft and collaboration. Those statements are attributed to Sagoo; they do not require treating the newspaper’s wider promotional claims as independently measured influence or claiming that the albums were heard for this entry. He recalled that Bachchan suggested including his father’s poetry on the project, placing a literary source within their collaboration.[2]
UK chart records
The Official Charts database lists Sagoo’s Chura Liya on the UK singles chart in 1994 and his album Rising From the East on the albums chart in 1996. These entries document particular UK chart appearances, not worldwide sales or a complete account of the music’s audience. The record identifies releases and dates without requiring a judgement about the recordings themselves.[3]
